IronChat which was a popular encrypted texting application among criminals and other security conscious people has been cracked by police in the Netherlands. By using end-to-end encryption on dedicated servers, the IronPhones were supposed to be completely secure and were therefore used trustingly. After breaking the encryption via unknown means, the police intercepted over 258,000 messages before declaring that the encryption had been broken. It is thought that there may have been a flaw in the encryption code but it is still uncertain how the encryption was cracked. Through this they were able to get a better grip on criminal workings, find huge amounts of money, and other illegal possessions such as weapons and drugs.
