Enhance cybersecurity awareness and survivability for DoD, industry partners, and academia in the face of the ever-increasing threat of cyber attacks. Cybersecurity (CS) includes managing risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information and the systems and processes used for those purposes, including analog and physical form. CS includes information availability, identification and authentication, confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation as well as the economic considerations with respect to selection of CS techniques, CS processes, and industry trends.
Barnes & Noble confirms cyberattack, suspected customer data breach
Barnes & Noble has confirmed a cyber attack may have potentially exposed customer data. Issues caused by the attacks include cash registers being briefly unable to function, being unable to access Nook libraries, previous purchases vanishing into thin air, not being able to log in to the firm’s online platform, connectivity issues, and customer email addresses, billing and shipping addresses, telephone numbers, and transaction histories may have been exposed. It is unknown how many people were impacted by the breach, but it is believed the leaked email addresses may be used in phishing scams. Barnes & Noble’s servers were previously vulnerable to CVE-2019-11510. Security flaws like this can be used to compromise corporate networks and deploy payloads including ransomware. Companies will have to work hard to prevent these kinds of attacks from happening again.
