Barnes & Noble has announced that their company has fallen victim to a cybersecurity attack. According to Barnes & Noble, the company was made aware of the attack on the company on October 10th, 2020 and continues to state how there was unauthorized and unlawful access to specific and certain corporate systems of the company (Barnes & Noble). Barnes & Noble then acted on the situation by releasing a notice to their customers addressing the breach, informing them on the cybersecurity attack, and explaining what this means for potentially compromised personal information. The company went on to assure their customers that none of their financial or payment information has been exposed, however, their personal information (phone numbers, home addresses, and email addresses) may have been compromised in the cybersecurity attack.
