Enhance cybersecurity awareness and survivability for DoD, industry partners, and academia in the face of the ever-increasing threat of cyber attacks. Cybersecurity (CS) includes managing risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information and the systems and processes used for those purposes, including analog and physical form. CS includes information availability, identification and authentication, confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation as well as the economic considerations with respect to selection of CS techniques, CS processes, and industry trends.

Cybersecurity experts come together to combat the increased number of cyberattacks against medical professionals and organizations. Three major organizations have come together to combat these attacks. If there are at least 10 red flags in a specific data point it gets added to the CTC blocklist. A new COVID-19 CTI League was created to specifically combat hacks against medical facilities and other frontline responders to the pandemic.

Hospitals are currently struggling during the pandemic. From all the new cases of Covid-19 as the days go, to the new cyber attacks Hospitals are starting to tighten up on confidentiality. With everything going on in the world Hospitals are very vulnerable to attacks such as ransomware; which the hackers would lock up a network maybe patient files, and demand a payment in return for there systems.

In today’s world, there are a lot of things that will make a person afraid. The coronavirus is one thing that scares a person. Hackers are taking advantage of this by posting fake ads and creating many fake websites to lure people to visit their websites so that the hacker can take their credit card information as well as other important information. By the time the person finds out, the hacker has already stolen their data. In order to combat these hackers, the government has multiple organizations designed to combat these criminals. With these organizations, there are less chances of criminals getting away with their crimes and keeping people and their important information safe and secure.

Hospitals have became very vulnerable to Cyber attacks with everything going on during this pandemic. From the overload of patients and cases of Covid-19 its a hackers dream to catch a system off guard and obtain confidential files that they can sell for ransomware.

With the world locked down during the pandemic and cyber crimes rising all across the globe it has become a tough situation for businesses to stay safe. It has become easier than ever for cyber criminals to carry out cyber attacks given the fear among people for COVID-19. They have been sending phishing emails to get hold of personal data like account numbers, social security numbers and login credentials or creating fake websites for face masks, wipes and hand sanitizers or charities are losing money to man in the middle attack.

To mitigate these threats the enterprises need to understand the severity of cyber attacks and work accordingly. Some measures that could be taken to mitigate it are:
      1. Secure Remote Working
      2. Conduct safer meetings
      3. Secure confidential data

A good customer identity and access management (CIAM) software can help in achieving it with its seamless login, enhanced protection, advanced login options, and consent and privacy management options. I read a useful article on the same, the link of which I am sharing below for reference:

Yes, Amelia, those are all great points that should be implemented to effectively mitigate this issue. I would add one more to it. These enterprises need to educate their staff and make them more aware of the cyber threats that are imminent when you possess information others find valuable. By becoming more socially aware of the dangers of phishing, social engineering, and the like, they can create their own internal defense and strengthen their offense simultaneously making them stronger and more effective. Here’s a link to an article that explains social engineering attacks, how to identify them and use self-defense to mitigate and prevent penetration.

I feel that Covid has given more power to cyber opportunities as it relates to healthcare in general. In this new world that we live in hospitals are overwhelmed with sick patients, they have to worry about their own staff and short PPE supplies. All these challenges create less and less time to plan and hospital IT departments are overwhelmed and understaffed. Unfortunately, that means sometimes taking shortcut with security including wifi and devices talking to different systems without going through the proper network and hence not protecting patient data according to the standards that are supposed to follow. BYOD has been a challenge in hospitals as well between staff and patients connecting to the same resources.

In addition to the posts above:
We also experience a lot of cyberattacks performed by nation states who aim to get access to useful information on mediciine and vaccine. Not only hospitals are affected but also universities, pharmaceutical corporations which all are working in the health sector.

Specifically during the COVID-19 pandemic (~March 2020-present), are adversaries still leveraging MRI machines as footholds into the networks, or is there a reliance on ransomware, or what trends/patterns are emerging?

CSIAC Report - Smart Cities, Smart Bases and Secure Cloud Architecture for Resiliency by Design

Integration of Smart City Technologies to create Smart Bases for DoD will require due diligence with respect to the security of the data produced by Internet of Things (IOT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT). This will increase more so with the rollout of 5G and increased automation "at the edge". Commercially, data will be moving to the cloud first, and then stored for process improvement analysis by end-users. As such, implementation of Secure Cloud Architectures is a must. This report provides some use cases and a description of a risk based approach to cloud data security. Clear understanding, adaptation, and implementation of a secure cloud framework will provide the military the means to make progress in becoming a smart military.
