Going back to school this year has been an ongoing struggle because of the pandemic. There are many challenges adapting to the virtual environment with schools having to deal with cybersecurity threats. Between July and August 2020, the average number of weekly cyberattacks per educational facility in the US rose by 30%, seeing a jump from 368 to an overwhelming 608 reported attacks many of which go unreported to avoid public attention. Cybersecurity is a big concern right now with ransomware infections being found in many IT networks and many staff, students, and teachers have not been educated on cybersecurity threats and how to defend against them. School systems need to work on bettering their cybersecurity to stop cyber attacks from happening or at least lessening their effects.
