Many cybersecurity vendors are using blackmail and fake security emergencies to sell their services to corporations. Threatening to expose vulnerabilities if they aren’t hired to fix them, and other questionable practices are commonly used. These practices raise questions about whether it is ethical to “threaten” businesses in order to improve their cybersecurity.
