DoJ Says Ex-Twitter Employees Acted as Agents for Saudi Arabia, Violated Twitter
Two Twitter employees, Ali Alzabarah and Ahmad Abouammo, are being charged with accessing private information on certain Twitter users and providing that information to, Ahmed Almutairi, an official of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The information accessed was things such as email addresses, phone numbers, IP addresses, and other things that could be used to locate them and was focused on users who were critical of the current regime. Abouammo was caught and faces trial while Alzabarah and Almutairi have managed to flee back to Saudi Arabia and have federal warrants issued for their arrest. While all three are facing 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, Abouammo is facing an additional 20 years and $250,000 fine for destroying, altering, or falsifying records.
