Programmers that worked on the M650 claim that they worked with removable Zip drive disks that could transmit malware and that it is also possible to infect the machine via a built-in network port. The ES&S were offered to have their machines checked for weaknesses by having friendly hackers attack it. ES&S officials claim that since their ballot scanner has such a perfect track record during elections that there is no need for such testing. They are afraid that during testing whatever vulnerabilities are found will get out and then they will be in trouble. That is them basically saying that they do not want to waste money on securing machines used in major elections.
