Sadly, nothing is sacred anymore- including US Census data. The Department of Homeland Security reports via their Homeland Threat Assessment (HTA) repot that unknown threat actors have targeted the US Census network last year (2019).
As a reminder, the US Census Bureau is the agency responsible for collecting and analyzing statistical data on American people and the economy, among other variables. DHS assumes the hackers were China, Russia, Iran and North Korea, but will continue to monitor the network closely.
