On a famous app called Instagram is very like Facebook. People create a profile and post pictures on a homepage where their friends can follow them and like and comment. Users have the option to make their account private so that people who they are not following can not see their content. Up until Tuesday morning on November 19th there was a way around this. There was an app on the app store called ‘Ghosty’. This app allowed the users to see through the hidden wall on peoples Instagram pages without being accepted. The app did this by crowd-sourcing all the login credentials that you inputted. You also had to invite at least one other person to Ghosty in order to view other private profiles. Ghostly has been around since April 2019 and has been downloaded over half a million times as of November 13th. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is what shut down the app and will be keeping a close eye out for anymore potential threats.
