An Israeli marketing firm improperly stored 49 million email addresses on an AWS Elasticsearch database and while the database was password protected, the credentials were stored as plaintext on an unprotected server. The database also contained names, phone numbers, and postal addresses. 70% of the email addresses from the database have already been found on the data breach notification site, Have I Been Pwnd, and according to website creator Troy Hunt, that means that many of them didn’t come from previous breaches.
