The macOS operating system was targeted by hackers that distributed malware through malicious advertisements. The advertisements redirected you to believe that it is a real Adobe Flash Player Update instead it distributed the Tarmac malware which also installed the Shlayer malware. The Tarmac malware and payload was signed by a legitimate Apple developer certificate undetected by XProtect and Gatekeeper on macOS which made the malware easier to be spread staying undetected to the macOS system.
