Enhance cybersecurity awareness and survivability for DoD, industry partners, and academia in the face of the ever-increasing threat of cyber attacks. Cybersecurity (CS) includes managing risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information and the systems and processes used for those purposes, including analog and physical form. CS includes information availability, identification and authentication, confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation as well as the economic considerations with respect to selection of CS techniques, CS processes, and industry trends.

    Hello All,

New here but looking for advise/chatter about the Manufacturing landscape what changes or risks are everyone seeing out there in the Covid world we are navigating?

Hello Scott. Working as a cybersecurity vendor, I saw less movement in the Manufacturing landscape due to COVID then I did for other segments. Banking/financial, IT/Technology, Education and Retail are the most active in providing new means for business continuity, expanding its environment to new vulnerabilities and threats and going after security controls to fit this new scenario. Manufacturing seems quiet. It is still demanding ICS visibility and control, but that’s been the case for the past couple of years. Recent increased interest in end-point from end-users visibility may indicate a concern with insider threats, but that is also a pre-COVID movement.

Perhaps that is just my vision based on local Manufacturing segment. I may be missing something, but it went off our radar on the COVID created programs for specific markets. It’s probably a good discussion to take further.

In my opinion Manufacturing industry is one of the most vulnerable sectors as they become more and more driven by IOT devices. There are going to be over 35bn IOT chips manufactured by 2025 will become part of everyones life, then how can the Manufacturing industry secure and protect against any malware attacks on these chip or even a sabotage. May be we can expect teh larger multinationals to take care, but all the local companies with very less knowledge about this would end up buying without proper security checks and these will go into may be your refrigerator or AC or even a Bulb at home.

More reading on the COVID and IOT https://www.darkreading.com/iot/iot-security-during-covid-19-what-weve-learned-and-where-were-going/a/d-id/1338501

As the note says , the top three searches on Shodan are related to remote camera access. Granted, some remote cameras are intentionally open to the Internet. However, there is still a large number of cameras connected to the Internet with default credentials. Attackers can easily take advantage of this low-hanging fruit and potentially access systems that were never intended for the public.

      Hi,

We have traditionally moved from an airgapped system now and with Covid-19 we are forced to move into a forced convergence and have now been forced to change especially in terms of support.

I have adopted the Purdue Model for support and decision making and it is something i will advocate for anyone in manufacturing to take a look at and try to engage in the model as much as possible

Hello. I work in the automotive manufacturing sector and we have not seen any increased cyber risk due to Covid. We were impacted in the second quarter of this year by slowdowns in materials that are shipped to us in Canada from China because their production had slowed down, and we have had to ensure safe working conditions and pandemic protocols in our facility, but there has been no noticeable impact on our cyber security landscape due to Covid.

CSIAC Report - Smart Cities, Smart Bases and Secure Cloud Architecture for Resiliency by Design

Integration of Smart City Technologies to create Smart Bases for DoD will require due diligence with respect to the security of the data produced by Internet of Things (IOT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT). This will increase more so with the rollout of 5G and increased automation "at the edge". Commercially, data will be moving to the cloud first, and then stored for process improvement analysis by end-users. As such, implementation of Secure Cloud Architectures is a must. This report provides some use cases and a description of a risk based approach to cloud data security. Clear understanding, adaptation, and implementation of a secure cloud framework will provide the military the means to make progress in becoming a smart military.
