According to the NorthShore University HealthSystem, the protected health information of their patients (patients’ date of birth, full name, contact information, and admission and discharge dates) was involved in a data breach. The personal information of 348,000 people were possibly exposed in the breach according to the Chicago Tribune. Around 56,000 donors and patients were notified by the NorthWestern Memorial Healthcare that their information may be comprised, and the various breaches have been reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights. As result of the various breaches, NorthShore has increased and improved security measures in order to prevent future attacks from occurring. In addition, NorthShore said that there is a low risk of harm to the affected patients’ personal data, and they continue to advise that everyone affected should continuously monitor their personal accounts for any suspicious activity.
