Enhance cybersecurity awareness and survivability for DoD, industry partners, and academia in the face of the ever-increasing threat of cyber attacks. Cybersecurity (CS) includes managing risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information and the systems and processes used for those purposes, including analog and physical form. CS includes information availability, identification and authentication, confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation as well as the economic considerations with respect to selection of CS techniques, CS processes, and industry trends.
PwndLocker Ransomware Gets Pwned

PwndLocker is a strain of ransomware that encrypts a victim’s data and then asks for payment in BTC ranging from $175,000 to over $660,000 depending on the size of the network. Emisoft analyzed the malware and a flaw was found by Fabian Wosar that enabled the files to be decrypted without paying the ransom. If a victim requires help in getting their files back they must submit the ransomware executable to Wosar, however since the executable deletes itself when it’s ran, it is difficult to obtain a copy of it. To combat this, a recovery tool can be used or the computer could be searched for a temporary copy of the file.
