Ransomware and Data Breaches triple in 2019
The K-12 Cybersecurity Resource Center reported that K-12 public school districts and agencies across the United States suffered 348 cyberattacks in 2019 which is three times the amount of attacks that occurred in the previous year. It concluded that most of the attacks during that time period resulted in the theft of millions of dollars, stolen identities, and denial of access to the school’s technology and IT system for weeks. The attacks also effected the educational institutions loss of personal information such as, students grades and qualifications, teacher employment and payroll information, and family and medical records. Louisiana public schools, Rockville Centre School District, and Las Cruces Public Schools have all been a victim of the ransomware attacks.
