A strain of malware that was more prominently used in the past has resurfaced. Dubbed Shamoon, the virus completely wipes data that it encounters. Very recently, the Italian oil services provider Saipem blamed a cyber attack on the virus. For the time being, a sample of the malware that was inspected does not have sufficient clues to link it to a particular target.
