This is unbelievable, but according to the popular security firm Kaspersky Lab, Chinese hackers have created a new type of malware that can apparently survive a Windows OS reinstall. The virus apparently exploits the computer’s Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) and remains behind when the OS is removed and reinstalled.
