A woman in Germany died during a ransomware attack on the Duesseldorf University Hospita. This accident may be the first death directly linked to a cybersecurity attack.

While dealing with a ransomware attack, the Duesseldorf University Hospital was transporting a woman who was in need of urgent care. Due to the distraction of having to deal with the cyber attack, the woman unfortunately died. This marks the first time in history that someone died with the result of a cyberattack.
