Enhance cybersecurity awareness and survivability for DoD, industry partners, and academia in the face of the ever-increasing threat of cyber attacks. Cybersecurity (CS) includes managing risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information and the systems and processes used for those purposes, including analog and physical form. CS includes information availability, identification and authentication, confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation as well as the economic considerations with respect to selection of CS techniques, CS processes, and industry trends.

With times advancing and security threats being at an all-time high, we have managed to become as lazy as possible when it comes to protecting ourselves online!

With so many devices and online profiles having a password, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage all these username and passwords. Therefore we get fed up in forgetting passwords and start to use the same password over and over. There is the obvious risk in this…a hacker breaking 1 password, they will have all ! In this article I was amazed to still see so many very week passwords use ( like “password,” and “12345678”). But not only that – the biggest concern must be that this is allowed as valid passwords by online profile companies!!! This should really be driven by the companies to protect themselves and the customer. That leaves the customer to just make sure he finds a method to use different passwords all over. And there are tools these days to help you as a customer/user and client manage that.

Knowing that most system users are inherently inclined to simple duplicated passwords across most of the online accounts there is need to be an awareness forum or terms and conditions to be read before setting up and online account and passwords. Password complexity policy should also be a mandatory check for most companies that require online registrations. Implementation of an OTP’s after registration that will require a system user to change their default set password on registration can aid in ensuring that online users have different passwords set. Password expiry and non repeat of previous passwords can also assist remediate the weak password practice.

Only 44% of passwords qualifying as “unique” represents a staggering number of bad passwords. This is the precise reason why organizations implement password policies in addition to systematically enforcing good password rules, complexity requirements, mandatory change frequency, prohibiting of password reuse. Training users against use of common passwords can not be overlooked. Individuals should heed this advice and hold their personal account passwords to the same standard.

From my point of view, when incorporating elements such as MFA – multi-factor authentication, there are many free applications on the market and some more specialized ones, regardless of whether we have a very easy password to discover or for our lazy users we would at least have one more point security, since these applications are supplied with a token through your phone or any mobile device in addition to your password and are very oriented to the end user which would be easier for users to adopt, even if it is as lazy as a Sloth.

In today’s world with technology becoming more and more advanced every day, security is the most important thing to have constantly updated because it can keep people and their information safe and secure.By having the latest security software, there is less chance a hacker to hack into someone’s private accounts and steal their information. Changing passwords for accounts is very important because experienced hackers can easily figure out passwords for people’s accounts and they can do serious damage to the information and by the time the person finds out, it would be too late. The best passwords are ones that are a combination of numbers and letters and are changed every couple of months because by doing that, it becomes difficult for a hacker to figure the password because of the letter and number combo and the changing every few months. With doing this, people would feel more safe and secure when they’re doing something online.

CSIAC Report - Smart Cities, Smart Bases and Secure Cloud Architecture for Resiliency by Design

Integration of Smart City Technologies to create Smart Bases for DoD will require due diligence with respect to the security of the data produced by Internet of Things (IOT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT). This will increase more so with the rollout of 5G and increased automation "at the edge". Commercially, data will be moving to the cloud first, and then stored for process improvement analysis by end-users. As such, implementation of Secure Cloud Architectures is a must. This report provides some use cases and a description of a risk based approach to cloud data security. Clear understanding, adaptation, and implementation of a secure cloud framework will provide the military the means to make progress in becoming a smart military.
