A civil liberties watchdog sued the FBI, the Justice Department, and Drug Force Administration claiming that the government is withholding information on how it uses a facial recognition database. Activists suspect that the FBI is collecting biometric data on people’s faces, walking patterns, irises, and voices, and has a database of 640 million images of American adults. Supporters of facial recognition say its a useful tool for catching criminals and maintaining security at airports and large venues. Privacy and civil liberties activists say that facial recognition technology is flawed and therefore could catch innocent people.
