Dr. LeMonté Green has over 20 years of experience in advanced computing systems ranging from fundamental research and development to tactical / operational systems. While his overall research focus is applied R&D of computer systems, his current involvement ranges from software acquisition policy to cybersecurity engineering.
He has been with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) for 11 years where he has led several high performance teams including MDA’s Software Assurance Pilot Program Team. The team led the Agency in the Agency’s roll as a pathfinder for the Department of Defense (DoD) to demonstrate how all DoD agency’s business practices and engineering functions require modification to bring them into compliance with public law and DoD requirements.
Prior to joining the Missile Defense Agency, Dr. Green owned a small business providing advanced research and development services. His earlier career experiences at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and General Electric established and reinforced a theme of his work and outreach that focuses on applied research and development.
Dr. Green holds a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University; and, he has obtained a master’s and bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Tuskegee University respectively.
Dr. Green is a senior member of the IEEE and is a native of Anniston, Alabama and currently resides in Huntsville, Alabama.

The objectives of this presentation are to provide an introduction to the topic of Software Assurance (SwA) – what it is and why it is needed – as well as an overview of the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) approach to implementing SwA. The MDA has holistically integrated key aspects of software assurance into its business and engineering practices to bring order to disparate issues. This process includes incorporating SwA throughout the MDA software development and systems engineering lifecycle.
