Mr. Kristopher Johnson serves as Director of the Department of Defense (DoD) Vulnerability Disclosure Program (VDP), DoD Cyber Crime Center (DC3). Supporting the DoD Chief Information Officer, U.S. Cyber Command, Joint Force HQs – DoDIN, and the cyber elements of all DoD components, the DoD VDP crowdsources the expertise of private-sector white hat cybersecurity researchers to identify vulnerabilities on DoD information systems. The DoD VDP is the largest single disclosure program in the world with over two-thousand active researchers discovering twenty-three thousand vulnerabilities in less than four years.
A native of Jamestown, New York, Mr. Johnson enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18. He spent six years as an Airborne Radar Technician on board the E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft; deploying multiple times in support of Operation Southern Watch, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and protecting the skies above our nation with Operation Noble Eagle.
After his honorable discharge from Active Duty, Mr. Johnson has spent the next sixteen years serving in various roles throughout the Federal Government and private industry including as Network Division Chief, U.S Army Northeast Regional Network Enterprise Center (RNEC), Fort Drum NY; as Pacific Lead Engineer, U.S Army Information Systems Engineering Command (ISEC), Seoul, South Korea; as Director of IT, Office of Security Cooperation – Iraq (OSC-I), Tikrit, Iraq; as Systems Engineer, ISEC, Fort Huachuca, AZ; and as Senior Wireless Engineer, Telos Corporation, Ashburn, VA.
Mr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology Management and a Master of Science degree in Information Assurance and Security. In addition to holding several prominent information technology certifications Mr. Johnson is Acquisition Level III certified in Information Technology and Level II in Program Management from the Defense Acquisition University. He is currently growing the next generation of cyber professionals as an Adjunct Professor at American River College, and starting July 2021 will be pursuing a Master of Strategic Studies degree as a resident student at the Air War College.
